Joseph K. Vermeille, PHD

Dr. Joseph Kenny Vermeille is a scholar-practitioner, educator, researcher, and technology leader whose extraordinary life journey — from the no-tech rural classrooms of Haiti to the AI-powered academic environments of the United States — gives him a singular and authentic voice on one of the defining issues of our time: artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity.
With over two decades of experience in information technology, learning systems, and instructional resilience, Dr. Vermeille served 23 years as a technology professional at Columbia University, where he contributed in digital transformation, multi-platform software development, and the design and management of proprietary enterprise systems. In 2019, he stepped away from that distinguished career to pursue his doctoral studies, successfully defending his dissertation, “Exploring Teachers’ Lived Experiences Teaching Online in the Wake of COVID-19: A Phenomenological Study,” on June 24, 2024.
A devoted grandfather and passionate advocate for the next generation, Dr. Vermeille is the author of multiple works at the intersection of education, technology, and human resilience — including the groundbreaking AI: A Blessing or a Curse for Humanity? and the pioneering AI and Me: My Smart Helper K–12 literacy series.
