Author Bio
Alecia Thurston is an educator and accomplished artist/designer, who has always been steadfast in her desires to serve with a spiritual heart, be a loving mother and wife, teach in a most creative and dramatic fashion, remain true to the freeness of her spirit and to follow the challenging road that leads to entrepreneurial success.
Believing that today’s world makes raising children a much greater challenge for parents, Ms. Thurston’s focus continues to be the following: creative program development, designing, and creating kid/parent friendly products that assist parents in raising healthy-minded children in an unhealthy-minded world, which continues to tolerate bullying at both preschool and kindergarten levels.
According to Ms. Thurston, positive development and a sense of self-worth is every child’s birthright at first breath. Indeed, it’s all about instilling self-confidence, assertiveness, self-love, a sense of worth, and spirituality in the gardens of little minds. Hence, the book, “Shumalady and the Hand That Decided Long Ago Not to Grow,” inspired by Mrs. Thurston’s granddaughter, was born as a heart-felt way to empower all children – particularly those children who, due to some kind of disability or another, suffer at the hands of bullies. Bullying hurts! Ms. Thurston is definitely on a serious mission to banish bullying from our children’s lives. . . It’s a much-needed movement.
A special thanks to Mr. Dennis Walcott, who recognized the merit and power of “Shumalady and the Hand that Decided Long Ago Not to Grow,” resulting in becoming yet another valuable children’s book at the Rochdale Village Queens Public Library.
