Dunn rescued a young girl fleeing from pursuers at the beginning of this fast paced adventure set in a dystopian world where the citizens have no rights under the authority of the government led by “Dearest Patron Donna Grimes.” To distract the pursuers Dunn embraced the young girl like a lover. It worked, she was safe, quickly she disappeared.
Escaping the threat Perri turned to someone she trusted only to be betrayed. Once again Dunn rescued her. Together they began a journey to find the illusive group called the Defiance their mission: “overthrow the government led by Dearest Patron Donna Grimes” a mission to save the world.
The journey was filled with danger, surprises, false leads and trickery that separated the lovers.
During childhood Dunn learned empathy, accountability and survival tools from Lark his mother and Dr. Joe, his grandpa. Secretly he was told about freedom and human rights that existed in the world decades ago secrets that motivated him to take the journey with Perri in spite of the risk.

When I finished the book, after secrets unraveled, questions answered I did something I’ve never done before. I turned back to the beginning and reread a good part of the book again.

Teen agers don’t have enough problems navigating young love without having to do it in a dystopian reality where the world really is against them. In Dana Precious’s “The State Sanctioned Free Thought Bookstore,” young lovers, Dunn and Perri, fight a totaliterian regime known as the Zietgeist. They struggle for their own freedom as well as the rest of the country’s. If you like your romance spicy with a lot of “1984” and “Brave New World” thrown in, this is for you.
