Leaving La-La Land: Escape to Reality
STORY SYNOPSIS
As on many other days, Rob is working on renovating his condo, using his carpentry skills. One fateful day, his contractor hears him collapse from the other room. The contractor finds Rob lying on the floor in full-body seizures.
Paramedics check out Rob; his vitals are fine, but something is wrong; he does not know what city he is in. Paramedics identify severe confusion and recommend the hospital for further observation.
When Rob awakens in the hospital, little does he know, his life — body – and brain — have changed forever . . . . physically and cognitively. Over the course of his three-month hospital stay, doctors undertake a barrage of tests and speculate all kinds of hypotheses for what Rob might be dealing with, which shows itself through both psychological and physical symptoms. Rob has a rare brain condition known as encephalopathy.
Rob’s journey to partial recovery is not a straight line, but a series of small wins, changes, and enlightenments. This is a deeply human journey, challenging readers to think about life, consciousness, cognition, emotions, and the resilience of the brain.
