In My Own Words: Reliving a Victim’s Tale

STORY SYNOPSIS

The author’s story of domestic violence including testimonies from women sharing their stories of survival. It features other women who are brave enough to share their personal stories of survival in their own words. I did not edit their words grammatically incorrect or not, it remained as stated. It is raw, but all very real. Some women chose to use their real names and others a pseudonyms.

Reviews:

Shereema Dumas’s In My Own Words: Reliving a Victim’s Tale is a deeply moving and courageous exploration of domestic violence. This book doesn’t simply recount one woman’s story; it opens the door to many, providing a platform for women who have survived abuse to tell their stories in their own words. The unfiltered, raw nature of these testimonies is what makes the book so powerful. It doesn’t hide the pain, the flaws in language, or the complexities of the survivors’ emotions, and that’s what gives it its authenticity.

The book doesn’t provide easy answers or wrap everything up with a neat bow, and that’s precisely why it resonates. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s something anyone interested in understanding the true impact of domestic violence should read. The bravery of the women who shared their stories cannot be understated, and Dumas’s role in giving them a platform is both profound and necessary.
