Carol L. Wagstaff was born and raised in the Midwest, the third child of a pastor/college professor and a nurse. Education and faith were emphasized in her early years, and she grew to love books, especially biographies and religious works. Carol received her B.A. in English, Speech, and Education from Olivet Nazarene University, and her Master’s degree in Faith and Culture from Trinity University Law and Graduate School. Carol married a youth pastor just out of college. After eight years, he left her and the ministry to live homosexually, and later died of AIDS. Carol determined to marry someone “normal”, only to learn that her second husband was a womanizer. God began to show Carol her own human frailty, her judgmental attitude, her “better than thou” perspective. His love, His grace, His forgiveness change Carol’s heart and He opened doors for her to help others. She served as an associate pastor in a So. California church for 10 years, then started a ministry to families impacted by sexual brokenness. For twenty-five years, she has spoken in schools, organizations, and churches, led support groups, spent thousands of hours ministering on the phone or in-person to family members, written newsletters, articles, and letters. Reclaim, Restore and Rebuild: Hope for Families Impacted by Sexual Brokenness was written for families who still want help, but have no one nearby to meet their needs. Carol’s prayer is that this book will continue to bring hope and peace to hurting and broken families. Carol currently lives in Arizona with her husband. Yep! She married again, and this one is a jewel! They are wonderfully blessed with a blended family of 9 children, 19 grandchildren (11 adopted), and 6 great grand.
When families of faith hear these unexpected words from their children, “I’m gay,” or “I don’t wanna be a boy, anymore,” they become stunned and frightened, parents desperate for help. “What should we do? What can we say? Where can we find help? Who can we trust?”
Reclaim, Restore and Rebuild: Hope for Families impacted by Sexual Brokenness offers a faith-based, interactive book, woven with real-life stories and biblical wisdom. The author walks alongside hurting family members, helping them understand what may be going on in the life of their loved one, taking them through the stages of grief, and struggles with their own faith. The biblical story of Nehemiah becomes an example of how to make this difficulty journey with sexual brokenness and how to survive the unexpected adjustments that come with family crises.
A Leader’s Guide, as well as other helpful tools included in the Appendix, enrich the reader’s experience.
“Through practical studies that are caring, nuturing, and biblically focused, this book provides a well-paved plan, making way for God to unravel those painful core matters needed for personal healing and wholeness.”…James E Phelan,Psy.D.LCSW
