Political pressure, corruption, romance, intrigue, and murder in defense of the UN Solar Shield’s 480 mirror system

Kelly O’Rourke is excited to become a officer in the UN Solar Shield Corps, which manages the system to help mitigate climate disruption. But she soon discovers inside and outside attempts to misuse the Project’s capabilities. She confides in Officer Jay Bhattachar, Commander Fauré’s Aide, about Fauré’s covert realignment of a mirror’s shadow at the urging of a Corps Board Member.
Faure’s action has inadvertently put the entire solar mirror project in jeopardy. Manhattan con artists have tricked a Wuhan computer firm into hacking the Corps’ master computer. They take advantage of the Commander’s action to pursue a profitable extortion scheme.
When Fauré finds out, he sends Jay, Kelly, and UN Security Officer Cheng to track them down. They follow the money trail from arson in Wuhan to confrontations in Manhattan and Moscow, triggering narrow escapes and clashes that put their very lives in danger. Kelly and Jay become lovers, but his moral concerns and appetite for adventure threaten their future.

Wow, that is a wonderful prayer.

So, what made you decide to write the book?
Fernel Clarkson
Sounds like your book is base on a true story. Is it?
Anna G
So, are against those companies who just send throw their waste in the sea?
Anna G
you*
Fernel Clarkson
What do you aside from being an author?
Fairgoer1149
Would a solar shield actually work to address climate change?
Fairgoer1149
Have heard about the Maldives, who are now very concerned and have expressed that at the Climate Summit. Does that come up in your book?
Fairgoer1417
Hi Sam,
Fairgoer1417
Is your talk now?
Sam Bleicher
To everyone who joined me 11/10 and returned 11/12, TFOS problems canceled my 11/12 live broadcast, but I will be live today (Sunday) as "Author of the Hour" at 5 pm, and live in my booth on Monday 11/15 and Wednesday 11/17 at 4:00 pm, and maybe 11/18 at 6:00 pm - if the system works. Thank you for your patience!
Luthie West
Am I early? Late?
Luthie West
Oh. Heheh there's a count down clock. Guess I'm early.
Fairgoer1749
Do you think Earth will ever run out of water?
Luthie West
Fairgoer1749 You know there is a customize setting below the dialogue typing line where you can enter a name or nick?
Mira
Which country do you think will sink first?
Luthie West
I think there is an awakening happening on Earth right now. Vegan lifestyles are increasing and electric vehicles will soon be more affordable than combustion engines. It has to happen. CO2 emissions have to stop, dirt must be returned to soil and planted to pull CO2 from the air into the ground and release oxygen. Everyone can help.
Mira
Some people still don't believe in climate change. How can we influence people to do their share in their own little way?
Luthie West
Maybe Professor Bleicher is having technical issues.
Luthie West
Mira the more people listen to mass media, the less will be done. Even when they talk about climate change it only causes fear and gives people the idea there is nothing they can do but wait for someone else (scientists) to do something! When fear rules action ceases.
Luthie West
Yes there are too many who don't believe the climate is changing or who stick their heads in the sand and ignore the evidence.
Luthie West
I've seen Cowspiracy, The Need to Grow, SEED, Forks Over Knives, the Game Changer and other documentaries done by concerned scientists, doctors and environmentalists. There is more influencing climate disruption than our use of natural gas or fossil fuel.
Luthie West
The worst influence of all are those who make their billions on things that do us all harm and they have no care for future generations.
Fairgoer1749
What do you think a commoner can do to help the environment.
Mira
What was your hardest scene to write?
Luthie West
Start by eating less meat, dairy, eggs, including fish. You may not be able to afford to run out and buy an electric car, but you'd be surprised at what an impact you can make by cutting animal products from your diet will do.
Fairgoer1749
What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Luthie West
I don't think Sam is going to be here right away. I'll be back later.
Mira
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
Fairgoer1749
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Fairgoer1749
Do you Google yourself?
Mira
What future do you see for environmentalists?
Luthie West
Hey Sam
Luthie West
I didn't think you were here
Luthie West
I wasn't getting you on your screen
Luthie West
d**n it ... how did I miss you?
Luthie West
It's good to be excited about something to help the planet. Well I'm glad you were here despite the fact that somehow I missed you.
Luthie West
I thought I was sitting here alone with two other people who were asking questions but there was no one here to answer them. I put in some comments to pass the time as I waited but then left to see if someone else was here.
Luthie West
Yay. I have video moving!
Luthie West
Hello Sam!

Is this kind of James bond thing of book??

hi sam !
Fairgoer383
Question for your book The Plot to Cool The Planet. Is this book talks about the climate change?
Luthie West
Would you please tell us the difference between the project in Plot versus the project in Guardians and what worked or didn't?
Luthie West
Oh yes! a READING! Thank you, Sam.
Mario G - RM
Is there a chance the protagonist in the Plot to cool and protagonist in the guardians will be together in your next book?
Luthie West
Thank you, Sam.
Fairgoer1954
The Plot to Cool the Planet by Sam Bleicher is one of the most interesting and important books I've ever read
MARIS A ST CYR
Both of your books provide excellent plots for film or a series--would you be interested in either?
MARIS A ST CYR
From geo-engineering particles to solar shields--what other deterrents might you have for cooling the earth?

Wonderful. Thank you Sam. I enjoyed the reading.

Fairgoer2013
This book is such a great eye-opener for everyone

The Plot to Cool the Planet: A Novel

This National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist puts global warming and climate intervention at the center of a gripping speculative fiction involving a notorious murder, a daring secret plot, and intense global conflict.

In the summer of 2020, Canadian RCMP Officers investigating the murder of outspoken climate scientist Ilsa Hartquist conclude that the motive was to silence her advocacy for a solar radiation management project to slow global warming. They are determined to find the assassins and those who paid for it.

With each passing year, the future that Dr. Hartquist predicted brings more extreme storms, shrinking polar icecaps, recurring massive floods, dangerous forest fires, and falling agricultural and fishery yields. But world leaders are paralyzed, as desires for short-term economic gain eclipse the long-term well-being of humanity.

Frustrated by global inaction and spurred on by Hartquist’s murder, diplomats from four small-island states—Maldives, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, and Singapore—launch a clandestine solar geoengineering project Hartquist advocated, disregarding international institutions and procedures, in order to save humanity and their people.

Their scheme exposes a conflicting secret Russian project, causing military confrontations and forcing hard decisions by world leaders, as American and Russian UN Ambassadors struggle to avoid escalating the military and political crisis.
