The story follows the working inside a technology company and its partners as it develops a competitive proposal to build a stretch of highway as a testbed to replace the United States Interstate Highway System. It follows the effect this has on the personnel involved to include competition between the workers and their wives. In the process, the book finds itself covering blackmail, adultery, and death.
